About the project

Germany has sixteen sets of public holidays, and where a holiday falls decides how much a single day of leave is worth. Urlaubsbrücken does that arithmetic. Pick your federal state, the year and your allowance, and it works out where those days buy the most consecutive time off — a bridge day between a Thursday holiday and the weekend turning one day into four, or a fortnight over the turn of the year built out of six. It offers several plans from the same budget: one long block, several shorter ones spread across the year, as many classic bridge days as the holidays allow, or a plan that protects the weekdays you would rather keep. The turn of the year is handled properly, with next year’s fresh allowance and carried-over days kept in separate pots, because taking 2 January costs a day from a different year. The result is a calendar you can change by clicking any working day, an .ics export for your own calendar, a printable A4 plan for the leave request, and a link that carries the whole setup. There is no account: the plan lives in your browser and nothing about it reaches the server.
